Deborah Raymond

Debbie (Deborah Ann) Raymond, age 65, of Alamogordo, NM, formerly of Savanna, passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter during a short yet tenacious battle with pancreatic cancer, Friday June 30, 2017, at Hospice of El Paso, El Paso, TX. She was born December 22, 1951, in Savanna, IL, to David and Ruby (Flynn) Raymond. She was a 1970 graduate of Savanna High School where she was active in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, the First United Methodist Church, and The Bell Choir.
She married Jack David Morris on July 25, 1970 in Savanna. Debbie was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1974. She worked as an Executive Assistant for various corporations until her battle with M.S. forced her to retire early. Debbie was adventurous and truly lived life on her terms; living across the United States in Florida, Oregon, including Pennsylvania where she was near her sister, Kathy and family, North Carolina, then settling in New Mexico.
She enjoyed traveling and experiencing new and different adventures including taking various classes and even enrolling in flight school. Debbie had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She had a big heart and made friends wherever she lived. She was very involved in her community, advocating for the ADA and U.S. Veterans. Debbie loved antiques, history, sewing, cross-stitching, reading, and most recently coloring.
She is survived by one daughter Heather Leah Morris of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, a brother, Michael (Lisa) Raymond of Beloit, WI, two sisters, Vickie (Jon) Lockhart of Arizona, Kathy (Alex) Ihle-Jackson of Roscoe, IL, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, her grandcat, Layla, as well as many close friends in Alamogordo, which includes her beloved dachshund, Heidi Jo. Her father, mother, and her canine companions Max and Sadie precede her in death.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Debbie touched are invited to the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, IL, Monday July 10, 2017 in the evening 4pm-7pm to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat. Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 11, 2017 1030am, Law-Jones Funeral Home, with burial immediately following.
