Burton D. Herrington, age 77, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019 at home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 21st, 2019 at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa. Online condolences may be left for the family at

Burton was born March 1, 1942, the son of William and Alba (Davis) Herrington, in Van Buren, Missouri. He attended Walden Schools. During the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of E6 Sergeant. On February 12, 1974, burton married Cindy Bowman in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. They celebrated 25 years of marriage until Cindy’s passing on April 4, 1999.
Burton worked as an electrical engineer and a handy man. He was very handy and loved the challenge of fixing things. He enjoyed reading, watching tv, WWII history, and especially loved spending time with his family.
Burton will be dearly missed by five children, Burton (Melissa) Herrington, Jr, Charles Herrington, Ramona Schoenwolf, Kenneth Herrington, and Dawn Harrington; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie; and his ex-wife Sheryl (Dauphin) Herrington-Schoenwolf.
Burton is preceded in death by his wife, Cindy; one son, John, his parents, William and Alba, and nine siblings.
