Artie Eugene Branson, age 90, of Sabula, Iowa, previously of Effingham, Illinois, died Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Illinois. Cremation will take place and Inurnment will be at a later date.
Artie was born December 31, 1922 on the family farm in Wabash Township, near Effingham, the son of William Albert and Fannie Lucille (Goens) Branson. He attended the Ewington Country School. Artie was inducted into the US Army, and before entering active duty he lost his arm in an accident while working at the local sawmill in Effingham. At the age of 18, Artie did not quit, he learned to drive nails and make a living with one arm.
Artie also worked as a caretaker for the Effingham Country Club for many years, until his retirement in 1995. Artie was known as a nice guy and a friendly soul. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed time on the Mississippi River.
He will be dearly missed by his sister, Shirley (Fred) Bresette of Sabula, Iowa. Artie was preceded in death by both parents and three brothers, William, Joy Lavon, and Paul Branson on August 12, 2012.
