Alan Lee Heisler age 96, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018, after a two-week stay at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll. A funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God. Burial will take place in Center Hill Cemetery, rural Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God. Memorials may be given in Alan’s memory.
Alan was born August 10, 1921 in Lanark, Illinois, the son of Oliver and Ruth (Bloyer) Heisler. He was raised on the family farm near Mt. Carroll and attended the Kingery Country School. Alan then graduated from the Mt. Carroll High School with the Class of 1939. On June 10, 1945, Alan married the love of his life Hazel I. Smith. They raised three children and celebrated 58 years of marriage. Hazel passed away September 23, 2003.
Alan farmed for several years. He then joined his father in business operating Heisler Sand and Gravel Company near Mt. Carroll. Alan later operated Heisler Stone Quarries, which was continued by his sons until 2004. He served as the Salem Township Road Commissioner for 22 years, and then beginning in 1993 he served on the Salem Township Board of Trustees until 2016. Alan was a member of the Mt. Carroll Church of God.
Alan was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed spending time restoring his Model A John Deere tractor. He enjoyed working all of his life, still mowing and fixing things until recently. Alan always enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially teaching the grandchildren about how things used to be.
Alan is survived by a son, Edward (Arnette) Heisler of Mt. Carroll; a daughter, Janet (Delbert) Hockman of Mt. Carroll; a daughter-in-law, Pam Heisler of Mt. Carroll; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Alan was preceded in death by his wife Hazel in 2003; a son, Glen in 2016 and two sisters, Mildred Shellhause in 2010 and Rosemary Imel in 1987.
