Wilma Corbett

January 29, 1923 — April 17, 2018

Wilma Corbett, age 95, of Savanna, Illinois passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 23, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Savanna Ambulance Association.

Wilma was born January 29, 1923 on the farm, rural Mt. Carroll, the daughter of Bert and Hazel (Yenney) Buckwalter. She attended Oakton Country School. On June 21, 1948, Wilma married Wilbur Corbett at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna. They raised three children and celebrated 56 years of marriage until Wilbur’s death in 2004.

In her younger years, Wilma worked for the Mackay’s in Mt. Carroll, and summers at the Mackay Ranch in Montana. She worked at the Savanna City Hospital during the war, and Winkler’s Jewelry Store in Savanna where she and Wilbur met. She also worked at the Savanna Locker Plant, and with her sister-in-law, Joyce ran the soda fountain of Johnson’s Drug Store for several years, and many years in the cafeteria of the Avenue School in Savanna. Wilma enjoyed gardening, quilting, canning, baking, raising strawberries and raspberries. She was an excellent seamstress and loved making clothing for her family. Wilma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Savanna, Chestnut Park P.T.A., P.E.O., and a Cub Scout Leader.

Wilma will be dearly missed by her three children, Stan (Cassie) Corbett of Beloit, Wisconsin, Brian Corbett of Savanna, and Colleen Yudell of Northbrook, Illinois; six grandchildren, Ryan (Mandy) Corbett, Sara (David) Ballard, Phillip (Hannah) Song, Valerie Yudell, Vanessa Yudell, and Vance (Danielle) Yudell; four great-grandchildren, Brendan Corbett, Justin Corbett, Camryn Kleebauer and Everett Yudell; one brother Dale (Carol) Buckwalter of Woodruff, Wisconsin; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Buckwalter of Bothell, Washington, and Edna Buckwalter of El Dorado, Arkansas.

Wilma is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur; two brothers, John and Logan Buckwalter; two sisters, Orpha Buckwalter and Clara Reibel; one son-in-law, Craig Yudell.
