Victor E. Dauphin III, age 67 of Savanna, Illinois, died on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Davenport, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service and burial of his cremated remains will take place in the Savanna Township Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00, prior the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Vic’s memory.
Vic was born on April 1, 1944, the son of Victor J. and Vera R. (Gillespie) Dauphin Jr. in Savanna, Illinois. He was raised in Savanna and attended Savanna schools. Vic married Carolyn L. Bahr on June 16, 1967 in Savanna. Carolyn passed away on December 9, 2002.
After attending school, Vic worked for his father on their family farm. He later worked for National Lock and then Metform in Savanna. He also operated a baseball memorabilia shop in Clinton, Iowa and later moved the store to Thomson, Illinois. Vic enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also liked gardening and would cook using ingredients from his garden. Vic was also an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
Vic will be dearly missed by two sons, Robbie Bahr of Clinton and Dennis (Marge) Dauphin of Thomson; one daughter, Lisa (Phillip) Mills of Savanna; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one brother, Howard (Diane) Dauphin of Mount Carroll, Illinois.
Vic was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carolyn; and one daughter, Victoria Dauphin.
