Ronald “Bill” B. Ritenour, age 98, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois passed away Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Ronald was born November 18, 1918, the son of Denton and Amy (Kessler) Ritenour in Mt. Carroll. He attended Mt. Carroll Schools. On November 23, 1940, Ronald married Grace Rogers in Clinton, Iowa. They celebrated 65 years of marriage until Grace’s death on July 3, 2006.
Ronald drove livestock truck for Leslie Myers in his younger years. He also farmed for 16 years, and worked for Crouse Plumbing & Heating in Mt. Carroll for four years. He then worked for the Carroll Service Company for 20 years until retirement. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Carroll. He also belonged to the Moose Lodge since 1943, and was its oldest member, as well as a lifetime member of the Legion of the Moose. Ronald was quiet and patient. He had a real wit about him, and would give you that “knowing” smile. He enjoyed fishing, boating, bowling, woodworking, and fixing things. He loved to go dancing, and camping on the Mississippi river with his wife, Grace.
Ronald will be dearly missed by two nephews, Alan and Art Crouse of Mt. Carroll, and a sister-in-law Dorothy Rogers of Mt. Carroll, and several nieces and nephews. Ronald is preceded in death by his wife, Grace; three brothers, Gerald, Robert and Richard; and two sisters, Dorothy Williamson, and Lucille Crouse.
