Richard "Dick" D. Guenzler

Richard “Dick” D. Guenzler age 82, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, Illinois, with military rites accorded by the Savanna VFW Post 2223. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. prior to the Masonic Service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Mississippi Lodge 385, the Disabled Veteran’s in Krebs, Oklahoma, or the family in Dick’s memory.

Dick was the first baby born in Carroll County January 1, 1936, the son of Glen W. and Clarabell (Adams) Guenzler. He attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. Following high school, Dick began his life in service to others by enlisting in the United States Navy. Dick served on the Savanna Police Department until his retirement in 1993. He also worked in the barber trade for 52 years. He was a manager and instructor at three separate Barber Colleges. Dick continued to work in the barber trade at The Barber Shop in McAlester, Oklahoma from 1999 to 2011. Dick and Cheryl returned to Mt. Carroll in 2011 after retirement to be near their children.

Dick married Georgia Kay Krick, in 1962. They later divorced in 1977. He married Cheryl McCaherty-McWethy in 1980. They celebrated 37 wonderful years together.

Dick was a life member of the Shaw Leavens VFW Post 2223 in Savanna, IL, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans in Krebs, OK and a 51-year member and a Past Master of the Mississippi Masonic Lodge 385 in Savanna, IL. He also served on the Savanna City Council for a year before relocating to Oklahoma in 1998.

Dick will be dearly missed by his wife, Cheryl; six children, Brett James (Claudine) Guenzler of Savanna, Timothy Scott (Tammy Sipe) Guenzler of Savanna, Laura Lee (Steve Saffar) McWethy of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Timothy Sheldon (Tammy) McWethy of Savanna, Sarah Ann (Steve Porter) Jackowski of Fulton, Illinois and Ryan Daniel (Kira) Guenzler of Mt. Morris, Illinois; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, John J. Jackowski.
