Mary Louise (King) Buck, 96, of Savanna, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna with Father Dennis Atto as Celebrant. Burial will take place in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Savanna. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna with a Rosary service at 3:30 p.m.
Mary was born July 31, 1919, in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Roy and Nellie (Fields) King. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the class of 1938. On August 9, 1939, she married Howard Lee Buck in Savanna. They had one son, Thomas.
Mary was happiest laughing and spending time with family and friends. She had a great sense of humor. She loved bargain shopping, especially for clothes, shoes, jewelry and purses. She was extremely talented in decorating for the holidays. Over the years, she made countless centerpiece arrangements. When she turned 90, her goal was to make it to 100, but the heavenly father called her home early.
Mary will be dearly missed by a granddaughter, Karen (Bob) King, of Milan; two grandsons, Kevin (Emma) Buck, of Bellevue, NE, Bill (Susan) Buck, of Holly Springs, NC; six great-grandchildren Bill and Brian King, Justin Buck and Mary Roelker, Bryce and Hannah Buck; one sister, Rose (Frank) Bina, of Darien, IL; and several nieces and nephews, including Nancy Handel of Savanna. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Howard in 1988; son Thomas in 2010; a granddaughter, Christina in 2001; two sisters, Jane and Elizabeth (Annie); and her parents.
