Marvin D. Bausman, Sr., age 86, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport, Iowa. A Masonic Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will take place following the Masonic Service from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Marvin was born September 24, 1930 the son of Orville and Thelma (West) Bausman in Stockton, Illinois. He attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1948. He later attended Bradley University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1977. On June 11, 1950 Marvin married Margaret Morgan at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Carroll.
Marvin worked as a State Police Officer out of District 1 in Sterling, Illinois for 25 years. He also served two terms as the Carroll County Sheriff from 1986 to 1994. Marvin was a member of the Cyrus Masonic Lodge #188 in Mt. Carroll for 50 years, the Freeport Consistory, the Tebala Shrine in Rockford, Illinois, and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed flower gardening, treasure hunting, stamp collecting, and especially loved spending time with his sons and grandchildren.
Marvin will be dearly missed by his wife of 66 years, Margaret; three sons, Marvin (Beth) Bausman, Jr. of Beloit, Wisconsin, Kirk (Kathy) Bausman of Hawthorn, Nevada and Jodi (Kathy) Bausman of Mt. Carroll; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and one brother, Jerry (Annette) Bausman of Elizabeth, Illinois. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Thelma, and three brothers, Kenneth, Delvin and Carson.
