Marilyn Altensey, age 67, of Savanna, IL, passed away Friday, February 8, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mount Carroll, IL. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Friends and family may share in Marilyn’s life at

Marilyn was born July 24, 1951, the daughter of Junior Thomas “Pat” and Cecelia (Parker) Gilbert in Clinton, IA. She attended Fairhaven Country Schools and Thomson Schools in her youth, before graduating from Savanna High School in 1969. On October 10, 1970, Marilyn married Matthew Altensey at her grandmother, Helen Parker’s house near Savanna, IL, Matt had returned home from his service in the U.S. Army.
Marilyn began her working years at Eaton Corporation, later called Invensys. She worked at the Savanna plant, then later, the Hanover plant, for a total of over 30 years. Marilyn enjoyed visiting with family and friends over coffee or tea, reading, playing bingo, and cross stitch, and also had an adventurous side, as she loved to travel out west with her family, and go camping at Mississippi Palisades State Park.
Marilyn will be dearly missed by her husband, Matthew Altensey of Savanna, IL; her son, Earl Altensey of Sabula, IA; her daughter, Veronica (Robert) Fredericks of Mount Carroll, IL; four grandchildren, Cody Altensey (Fiance Katie Beyer), Connor Altensey, Izabella Fredericks, and Zoe Fredericks; 2 great grandchildren Lily and Frankie; her mother, Cecilia Gilbert of Savanna; seven sisters and a brother, Vickie Trybus- Savanna, Karen Molinari- Rockford, Pamela ( Salvador) Mendez- Savanna, Doreen ( Butch ) Miller- Savanna, Gail Ann Themas- Savanna, Kim ( Jeff ) Knouse- Savanna, Tom ( Barb ) Gilbert- Mt. Carroll, and Cece Gilbert- Savanna; and several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her son, Michael Paul Altensey, who passed soon after birth; her father, Pat Gilbert; and her 3 sisters, Sisters, Marie Sue Gilbert, Claudia Ann Gilbert, and Cathy Jo Koeller.
