Lucy Matilda (Schoenhaar) Miller, age 93, of Savanna, Illinois, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at FHN Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:30 Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Savanna with Reverend Daniel Foelske officiating. Burial will be in St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Memorials may be made in Lucy’s name for the Good Samaritan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mt. Carroll.
Lucy was born May 26, 1918 in Savanna, the daughter of Samuel and Anna Katherine (Emberlie) Schoenhaar. Lucy married Marion “Bing” Miller. She was devoted to her family, and through the years found much strength in her relationships with her children and grandchildren. Lucy enjoyed going-out-to-eat, traveling and reading. She was a long-time member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Savanna where she was active in the Lydian Society and Wa-Tan-Ye. Lucy was a homemaker, but had also worked at the Savanna Army Depot and Captain Walt’s Liquors, Savanna.
Lucy is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Tom) Carroll of Mineola, New York and Carol (Bob) King of Schertz, Texas; a son, Robert (Young) Miller of Savanna; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Polly Smith of Lanark, Illinois. Lucy is preceded in death by a brother, Paul and three sisters, Ann Menenga, Katie Shafer and Barbara Adams.
