Joseph “Joe” J. McColley age 63, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Friday, November 30, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospital, with his loving family by his side. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service. A memorial fund has been established in Joe’s memory.
Joe was born June 6, 1955 in Savanna, the son of James R. and Beverly (Leshelle) McColley. He attended Thomson High School and Graduated with the Class of 1973. Joe honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Joe worked for Metform in Savanna. Joe married the love of his life Mildred Hartley on November 9, 1990 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. They celebrated 28 years of marriage.
Joe was a member of the Savanna VFW Post #2223. He enjoyed horse shoes, throwing darts, playing cards while listening to music and having a beer while hanging out in the garage. Family meant the most to Joe, and he treasured the time he spent with them. He enjoyed having cook-outs and going camping with family and friends.
Joe will be dearly missed by his wife, Mildred; three children, Michelle (Matthew) McColley of Galena, Illinois, Craig (Andrea) True of Fulton, Illinois, Renee (Nick) Greene of Hanover, Illinois; 10 grandchildren, Josh, Kearston, Kiley, Noah, Brian, Kaley, Ethan, Remington, Mia, Charlie; 9 brothers and sisters, Rhonda, Mike, Todd, Dawn, Ronnie, Gale, Jennifer, Terry Lee and Robbie; and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jimmy.
