Harold Loren May, age 74, of Savanna, Illinois, died on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Big Meadow’s Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, with Pastor Robert Bridges of Savanna Baptist Church officiating. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery, Savanna, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 29, and one hour prior to the service on Monday, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Harold was born October 7, 1937 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Harry and Roseann (Blumer) May. He graduated Clinton High School in 1955. Harold served his country in the Army from 1961 to 1962. On May 26, 1973, Harold married Betty Handel. They celebrated 39 years together.
After graduating, Harold went on to work at Clinton Corn for 30 years. Harold also farmed, and did line work at Atwoods. Harold loved the outdoors, including fishing, gardening, camping, and hunting. He enjoyed watching TV and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Harold was also an active member of the Savanna Moose Lodge.
Harold is survived by his wife; three brothers, Melvin May of Camanche, Iowa, David (Sandra) May of Muscatine, Iowa and Merle (Debra) May of Springfield, Missouri; two sons, Allen May of Savanna, and Michael (Amy) May of Lena, Illinois; one daughter Teresa (Robert) Wagner of Freeport, Illinois; three grandchildren, Joseph Wagner, and Emma and Eli May; and several nieces and nephews.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Shirley; and a son at birth.
