Eugene "Butch" Dayboll, Jr., age 72, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois with Pastor E.C. Lathrop of the First Brethren Church of Lanark officiating. Visitation will be held 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll at a later date.
Gene was born August 10, 1942 in Savanna, the son of Eugene and Nellie (Campbell) Dayboll, Sr. Gene attended Savanna schools and is a graduated from the Mt. Carroll High School after the family moved near Mt. Carroll to farm. On September 15, 1968, Gene married his sweetheart, Beverly Pitts, in Mt. Carroll. They have been a team together for forty-six years.
In the beginning, Gene worked hauling milk from farms to the Chadwick Cheese Factory. Quite often, Beverly was by his side. He also helped his father farm near Mt. Carroll. Gene later worked for the Glenn Gary Cattle Company near Mt. Carroll, Drives Inc in Fulton, Woods Manufacturing in Mt. Carroll and Allied Waste in Clinton, where he retired in 2005.
Gene always loved his animals, spending time raising goats, chickens, rabbits and more. Raising animals connected him to the farm life he enjoyed as a youth. He was also fond of Allis-Chalmers tractors and collected miniatures. His other passion was collecting salt & pepper shakers. Gene also enjoyed camping and fishing.
Gene will be dearly missed by his wife, Beverly of Mt. Carroll; his three children, Allen (Jenny) Dayboll of Savanna, Sherrie (Mark) Mueller of Mt. Carroll and John Dayboll of Mt. Carroll; five grandchildren, Allie, Devin, Emily, Jessica and Austin; and three sisters, Judy Dayboll of Lanark, Patti (Marv) Eacker of Argo Fay and Carol (Michael) Miller of Dyersville, Iowa. Gene was preceded in death by both of his parents.
