Douglas Ray Warner

Douglas Ray Warner, age 78, of Sabula, Iowa passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, Preston, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. Burial will take place in Sterling Cemetery, Miles, Iowa.

Douglas was born January 24, 1940, the son of Gerald and Louella (Tonne) Warner. He attended Preston High School, graduating with the Class of 1957. On January 31, 1959, Douglas married Myrna Schwennsen in Bellevue, Iowa.

Douglas was a farmer for 60 years. He also was a bus driver for East Central Schools and Easton Valley Schools from 1975-2018. He was a member of the Jackson County Farm Bureau, and served as a Sabula Rural Fire Trustee. Douglas enjoyed farming, woodworking, restoring tractors, and playing cards – especially euchre and rummy and going out for dinner. He loved attending his grandson's activities, including football games, lawnmower pulling and car racing. He also enjoyed spending time around the kitchen table with his “Coffee Crew”.

Douglas will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Myrna; one son, Donald (Deb) Warner of Sabula, and Linda (Allan) Milder of Sabula; five grandchildren, Emily Warner, Amy (Adam) Roling, Ethan (Emily) Milder, Douglas (Alexandra Dickey) Milder, and Walker Milder; four great-grandchildren, Abrym Roling, Atley Roling, Lane Yaddof, Makinley Yaddof, and another great-grandchild due in September. Douglas is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Louella; and two brothers, Wallace and Charles Warner.

The family would like to thank the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Jackson County Hospice for all the loving care they provided Douglas.
