Dorothy was born on September 2, 1926, in Savanna, IL, daughter of Don and Viola (Clay) Pease. She was raised in Savanna where she graduated as valedictorian from Savanna High School. Dorothy was united in marriage to Darrell F. Koecke on June 29, 1947, in Savanna. They were married for 67 years before he preceded her in death on March 30, 2015. They moved to Dubuque in 1963, where they worked and raised their family. Dorothy was employed as a secretary at Dubuque Bible Church and later at Farm Bureau, eventually becoming the office manager before retiring after 20 years of loyal service.
Dorothy was a generous and gracious soul who was faithfully devoted to her children’s education to the point of funding medical school without hesitation. She was a very active and longtime member of both the Bible Church in Savanna and Hope E. Free Church in Dubuque. Dorothy had a great love and appreciation of glorifying her Lord through music and treasured the opportunity to play piano, organ and sing at church for most of her life. She also found joy spending time with her friends in the Over the Hill Group. Dorothy’s soul is finally free and resting safely and securely in God’s arms now.
Dorothy is survived by her son, David Koecke, Dubuque, IA; her grandchildren; Jennifer (Joey) Ewen, Reston, VA, Stephanie (Tim) King, Cedar Rapids, IA; her great-granddaughter, Cora Ewen. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Darrell Koecke; a son, Stephen Koecke; and two daughters in infancy. A Dorothy J. Koecke memorial fund has been established.
