Donna Joyce (Eickert) Helmle

Donna Joyce (Eickert) Helmle,age 77, of Spragueville, Iowa passed away peacefully, Monday, July 25, 2011 at her home after a two year battle with cancer. Visitation will be held 3-8 pm on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa with burial following at the Spragueville Cemetery.
Donna was born on December 24, 1933 to John and Frieda (Behrens) Eickert. She was raised with her brothers and sisters in Teeds Grove, Iowa and attended Miles High School graduating in the class of 1952. Donna married Larry Helmle on July 22, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa. She worked at the Clinton County Court House for a number of years and then was a stay at home mom and homemaker. While at home she raised 3 children and also helped to raise her 9 grandchildren as well. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Donna enjoyed craft work, was a lover of all birds, from hummingbirds to her favorite cardinals and peacocks. She also loved to grow her very large garden with dozens of different vegetables. Donna enjoyed her flower gardens and all of nature, especially hunting for morel mushrooms in the spring time with her daughter. She also enjoyed rendezvous with the buck skinners, and marching in parades. Though she loved all of these things, "Though she loved all of these things, Donna's greatest love was her husband and family, and she enjoyed every day spent with them.
Donna will be dearly missed by her husband of 58 years, Larry, two sons Lonnie (Ruth) Helmle and Kevin (Jodi) Helmle, and a son-in-law Rich Dierksen all of Spragueville. Nine grandchildren, Quentin (Terri) Helmle, Nichole Ladd, Jeff, Michael & Samantha Dierksen all of Spragueville, Ashley (Jason) Pataska of Solon, Iowa, Marlee Helmle of LaMotte, Iowa, Addie (Chris) Ketelsen and Koby Helmle all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Six great-grandchildren, Noah, Hunter, Jaycee, Kaylee, Kye & Cael and two step-great-grandchildren Ricky & Ellie, a half-sister Bernette Andresen of Moline, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her daughter Sheila Dierksen in December, 2010, sister Shirley Carder, 3 half brothers Elmer, Lester and Lowell Brandenburg, her parents, in- laws, and grandparents.
