Dan was born on March 7, 1957, the son of Allen and Jeanette (Kleckner) Haas in Savanna, Illinois. He attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1975. Dan earned his Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture Economics from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. After college, Dan enjoyed skiing, going to Las Vegas and traveling the world visiting friends. He loved maintaining and driving his 1979 Chevy Camaro, which he bought new after graduation.
After receiving his degree from the University of Illinois, Dan worked for A.O. Smith Harvester in Eureka, Illinois. Dan later came back home to the family farm and began farming with his father and later his brother, Steve. The Haas family farm raised cattle and hogs, primarily focusing on beef cattle. Dan was a trustee for the Washington Township Board for several years. He enjoyed watching the Fighting Illini play sports, visiting with friends and tending bar at the V.F.W. in Savanna. Most of all, Dan cherished spending time with his family and friends, cherishing every family reunion, wedding, holiday, Illini game, hog roast and get-together he was able to attend.
Dan is survived by his mother, Jeanette of Savanna; one brother, Steve (Mary) Haas of Savanna; two nieces, Margaret (Silas) Pepple of Chicago, Illinois and Anna Haas of Wilmington, Delaware; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his dog, Chief Illiniwek. He was preceded in death by his father, Allen.
