Thelma Ann Fecke

October 25, 1928 — December 15, 2013

Thelma Ann Fecke was an active, caring and supportive mother, friend and neighbor. She joined her husband, of 59 years in Heaven on December 15, 2013, at the age of 85, at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, Illinois.
Thelma was born on October 25, 1928, the daughter of Carl and Violet (Pompoco) Scherman, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was raised in Savanna, Illinois and attended Savanna Schools. Thelma graduated Savanna High School with the Class of 1946. Thelma married George B. Fecke on March 19, 1950, in Savanna. George died on June 11, 2009.
Thelma was actively supportive of her community and her church. She was a longtime member of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Methodist Women’s Esther Circle. She also sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school and helped organize funeral lunches and times of fellowship. She enjoyed volunteering her time with the Good Samaritan Auxiliary, playing games and spending time visiting with residents. Thelma was also a proud member of the Jacobstown Community Club and the 4C’s club.
Thelma was always on the move and hardly ever sat still. If she was sitting down, Thelma was always doing something—either needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, sewing or puzzles. She also enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking meals for family gatherings. Most of all, Thelma loved playing games and visiting with family and friends.
Thelma will be dearly missed by her son, Paul (Linda Jackson) Fecke of New Berlin, Wisconsin; her daughter, Linda (Vern) Anderson of Moline, Illinois; a sister, Jean Bonjour of Savanna, Illinois; a brother, Ron (Gloria) Scherman of Western Springs, Illinois; six grandchildren, Christopher (Pam) Fecke, Richard (Kilah) Terhardt, Britta Anderson, Tami (Don) Spriet, Anthony Anderson, and Brandon Anderson; six great grandchildren, Kyra, Alana, Kelsie, Jake, Karly and Storm; and many nieces and nephews. Thelma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; one brother in-law, Glenn Bonjour and one nephew, Gary Bonjour.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church with Reverend Teri Lafferty officiating. Cremation Rites will be accorded immediately following the funeral service. Burial of her cremated remains will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt Carroll. Memorials may be given to the Mt Carroll United Methodist Church in Thelma’s memory.
