Sharon VanDyke, of Thomson, Il, passed away Wednesday, February 23, at her home in Thomson. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Thomson. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Sharon was born April 13, 1946, daughter of Glen and Ethel (Fryer) Scheider. She attended grade school in Orangeville, Il, and went to high school in Juda, Wi. In 1962 Sharon met the love of her life, Ray VanDyke. The couple dated for a short time, then married on December 7, 1963. Together, Sharon and Ray celebrated 53 years of marriage until Ray’s passing in 2016.
Sharon was a great storyteller, whether she was telling a tale from her own life, or recounting what she read in one of her favorite magazines. She had a memory like a steel trap, going far back into her childhood, which added to how interesting her storytelling was. Sharon never liked to sit at home, and kept herself busy every day. From more mundane appointments to get her nails done, to more enjoyed activities, like going to Dusty’s for her coffee clutch, Sharon was on a new adventure every day. While her husband, Ray, was still with us, the couple loved to take day trips to many locations in the Midwest, and they always had time to stop and visit family.
Sharon will be dearly missed by her two brothers, Ronald (Rita) Scheider of Browntown, Wi, and Wayne Scheider of Broadhead, Wi; one sister, Carol (Lester) Tornow of Thomson; one sister-in-law, Louise Kaufman; many nieces and nephews; and her Jack Russell Terrier, Little Man.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, Ray; parents, Glen and Ethel; two sister-in-laws, Betty Scheider and Judy Scheider; three nephews, Roger Tornow, David Kaufman, and Gerald Kaufman; one niece, Mary Tracy; and one great-great-niece, Maddison.
