Ruth "Lori" Roberts

November 16, 1934 — June 18, 2015

Ruth Lorene “Lori” Roberts, age 80, of Lanark, Illinois, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the Lanark Church of the Brethren, Lanark. Burial will take place in Lanark Cemetery. A visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service on Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established in Lori’s memory.
Lori was born November 16, 1934, in Lanark, Illinois, the daughter of Wales and Ruth (Waterbury) Geary. She was a graduate of Lanark High School, where she was very active in sports and cheerleading. She also performed as an acrobatic baton twirler at many local events and fairs.
Lori worked several different jobs throughout her life. She operated her own sign painting company, sold insurance and was a barber/beautician. She treasured her time as the campground host at Timberlake and Lake Carroll Campgrounds. She was a lifetime member of the Lanark Church of the Brethren. She was also a member of the Sterling Chapter of Sweet Adeline’s with her quartet winning the International Queens of Harmony Contest. Lori was multitalented and artistic. She enjoyed playing horseshoes, cards, painting, singing and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Most of all, Lori cherished spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
Lori will be dearly missed by a daughter, Tamara Nelson of Clinton, Iowa; four grandchildren, Shanon (Bo) Sikkema of Des Moines, Iowa, Morgan (Nick Luckritz) Nelson of Clinton, Iowa, Jordan Nelson of Clinton, Iowa, and Colin Nelson of Clinton, Iowa; one great-grandchild, Kennedy Witt of Clinton, Iowa; a sister, Jan Geary of Freeport, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. Lori is preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Patricia Franey and Diane Pauley.
