Ruby Belle Denter, age 91, of Preston, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Spragueville, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m–7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery in Spragueville. Memorials may be given to the Iowa Department for the Blind, 524 4th Street, Des Moines, Iowa, 50309 in Ruby’s memory.
Ruby was born on June 5, 1916, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Mary Elizabeth (Haylock) Jensen. She married Harvey H. Denter on June 7, 1942. Harvey died on January 17, 1999 in Davenport, Iowa.
Ruby earned her teaching degree from the Iowa State Teachers College in 1930 and taught in Jackson County one-room schools until she married. After she married, she was a homemaker who worked for 28 years side-by-side with her husband on their dairy farm west of Preston until moving to Preston in 1973. She relished raising her daughters and creating a good home for her family.
She was a member of Homemakers, a 4-H leader, and active in Salem Lutheran Church. She was a dedicated walker and member of TOPS. Gardening, cooking and serving meals to family and friends always made her happy. She was a woman of great faith and walked with God every day.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jane (Richard) O’Leary of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Carol (David) Bodensteiner of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sue Denter of Tucson, Arizona; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a sister, Joyce Bees of Sabula, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey.
