Rosemary (Funk) Buck Shafer, age 97, of Savanna, IL, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Savanna, on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at 10:30 am. Cremation rites will be accorded.
Rosemary was born March 11, 1922 in Savanna, IL, the daughter of Frank and Clara (Diffin) Funk. She attended Walnut Grove School and later married Orville Buck on June 15, 1940, in Savanna. After Orville’s stroke, Rosemary shouldered much of the burden of caring for the family farm, for many years. She helped Orville work that family farm for 45 years, until retiring in 1985.
Following Orville’s untimely passing, Rosemary married Jack Shafer on September 28, 1985.
In 1996, at the age of 74, Rosemary went back to school and earned her GED through Highland Community College; an achievement of which, she was especially proud.
Rosemary was a proud, long-time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and W.O.O.M. She enjoyed making quilts, and shared this love with others, by gifting many of her creations.
Rosemary is survived by many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Clara; husbands, Orville Buck and Jack Shafer; brothers, Donald and George Funk; sister, Frances; special sister-in-law, Gladys Funk; and niece, Mary Ellen.
