Ronald E. Beyer, 82, a strong man with a servant’s heart, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Waverly Place Nursing Home in Stockton, IL, following a short battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
He was born on June 2, 1937, in Woodbine, Twp., Jo Daviess County, IL, the son of Lorenz and Augusta (Eacker) Beyer. He attended the rural Barrett School and Elizabeth Public Schools. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Derinda, were he served as the bell ringer and custodian for many years.
Growing up, he worked on the family farm and later at the Lena Feed Mill, the Elizabeth Feed Mill, the Elizabeth Sale Barn, the Eaton Factory in Hanover, and the Jo Daviess Farm Service until retirement. He was a proud member of the Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Department also for many years. He enjoyed helping neighbors and at funerals at the church. In the past, he had also dug graves at Trinity. He loved playing euchre and canasta and listening to country music and polkas and having coffee with friends at E-Town.
On February 14, 1965, he was married to Peggy Steffes at St. John Lutheran Church, Massbach, by the Rev. Karl Kessler.
Survivors include his wife, one son, Daniel, one daughter, Lynnell, all of Elizabeth; one brother, Russell (Linda), two sisters, LaVonne Schrader and Twila (Richard) Reusch, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, LeRoy (Lillian) and Allen (Sharon) and two sisters, Dorothy (Melvin) Ellinor and Iva Mae (Tom) Leehan.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, Derinda, with a short visitation prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Ronald’s memory to the Elizabeth Ambulance Association, the Elizabeth Fire Department, Hillcrest Family Services in Dubuque, Iowa, and Trinity Lutheran Church.
