Richard John Sipe, age 84, of Savanna, Illinois, previously of Mt. Carroll, died Monday, January 16, 2017, at home, surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2016 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 20. 2016 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna and also one hour prior to the service Saturday. A memorial fund has been established in Richard’s memory.
Richard was born on January 25, 1932, in Freeport, Illinois, the son of John and Ada (Buckwalter) Sipe. He is a Mt. Carroll High School graduate with the Class of 1950. Richard worked as a mechanic in Freeport, and worked for Johnson’s Feed, Mt. Carroll, for 25 years. Richard made sure he was the glue that held family together through the years. Richard was famous for making homemade ice cream. He enjoyed cars, traveling, boating, fishing, cooking, tinkering, visiting the horse track, the Mississippi River and the Palisades Park. He cherished the time he spent with grandchildren and family.
Richard will be dearly missed by his four children, Amanda McAuliffe of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, Connie (Steve) Gendreau of Sabula, Iowa, Dale Sipe of Savanna, and Michael (Jodie) Sipe of Mt. Carroll; 13 grandchildren; 25 ¾ great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Carol Craig of West Salem, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Phillip, Jack, Larry, and Wayne Sipe; and two sisters-in-law, Aiko “Joanie” Sipe and Dwana McFadden.
