Richard "Rick" Emil Dickinson, age 82, of Sabula, Iowa died Friday, November 6, 2009 at home. Cremation will be accorded and a Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Sabula. Burial of ashes will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Sabula VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., November 14, prior to the service at the Church. Memorials may be given for St. Peter’s Church or Mercy Hospice.

Rick was born July 24, 1927 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Richard Orville and Olga (Uhlig) Dickinson. He is a graduate of the Leaf River High School with the Class of 1945. Just prior to graduation, Rick enlisted in the US Navy. He was proud to have served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. On August 16, 1952, Rick married Joyce Walker in Sabula.

Rick’s career included serving as a past Sabula City Marshall and working as Manager of the Oxford Speaker Factory and later, Products Unlimited, both in Sabula. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church of Sabula and the Sabula VFW Post #5234 and the Sabula American Legion Mississippi Post #74. He enjoyed carpentry work, gardening, hunting and fishing.

Rick will be dearly missed by his wife, Joyce of Sabula; seven children, Rick (Rae Ann) Dickinson of Sabula, David (Marvis) Dickinson of Morton, Illinois, Gayle (David) Honeywell of Sabula, Dawn (Peter Magee) Dickinson of Scottsdale, Arizona, Greg Dickinson of Clinton, Steve (Renae) Dickinson of Urbandale, Iowa and Jeff (Lynn) Dickinson of Clinton; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Edward "Pancho" (Sue) Dickinson of Anaheim, California and Dan (Sally) Dickinson of Pecatonica, Illinois; and a special niece, Sharon (John) Mangler of Sabula.

Rick is preceded in death by both parents.
