Richard R. “Dick” Gillies, age 84, of Hanover, Illinois, died Friday, June 16, 2006 at the Mercy Medical Center Dubuque, Iowa, Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2006 at the Hanover United Methodist Church Hanover. Reverend Lynne Matthews will officiate. Inurnment will take place 11:00a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2006 in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover with Full Military Rites accorded by the Hanover VFW. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. A memorial Fund has been established in Dick’s name. Dick was born January 29, 1922 in Naples, South Dakota, the son of George and Alice (Kroppe) Gillies. He served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in Italy.
On December 16, 1950 he married Sylvia Gallop in Watertown South Dakota. Dick worked at the Savanna Army depot until his retirement in 1973.
He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Fan and Green Bay Packer Football fan.
Dick will be dearly missed by his wife, Sylvia of Hanover; three children, Gene (Debra) Gillies of East Dubuque, Illinois, Rick Gillies of Anniston, Alabama and Jolene (Dale) Horsfield of Ft. Myers, Florida; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Clarine Peterson of South Dakota.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Marie Thompson.
