Richard Eggers

Richard A. Eggers, age 83, of Teeds Grove, Iowa, died Friday, September 27, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center South in Clinton, Iowa. Visitation will be held Monday, September 30, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Andover, Iowa. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place in the Andover Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Richard’s memory.

Richard was born January 2, 1930, on the family farm, to John J. and Rosa (Jess) Eggers in Clinton County, Iowa. He attended Miles High School in Miles, Iowa and graduated with the Class of 1948. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War in Tokyo, Japan as a Military Police Officer. Richard married the love of his life, Leola Ruchotzke on October 4, 1953 in Preston, Iowa. Leola passed away December 28, 2003 in Dubuque, Iowa.

Richard farmed all of his life on his family’s Century Farm until his retirement in 1992. He was very proud of his family and cherished watching his grandchildren’s activities. He also enjoyed card playing, telling jokes, gardening, and woodworking.
He was a long time member of the Andover, Iowa Volunteer Fire Department, Faith Lutheran Church, the Clinton County Farm Bureau, Miles American Legion, and AMVETS. Richard was also a member of the Clinton County Pork Producers where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988.
Survivors include his ten children, Tricia (Ken) Perron of Clinton, Iowa, Kevin (Andra) Eggers of Clinton, Iowa, Elaine (Buck Clark) Eggers of Waterloo, Iowa, Carolyn (Terry) Speth of Atkins, Iowa, Dennis (Janelle) Eggers of Clinton, Iowa, Jeanette (Dave) Bennett of Morrison, Illinois, Laura (Willy) Aldis of Clinton, Iowa, Darla Hasken of Miles, Iowa, Glenda (Mike) Bolte of Oswego, Illinois, Eileen (Paul) Hansen of Hartford, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Eggers of Clinton.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Leola; two brothers, Ralph and Robert; a grandson, Kyle Bennett; and his parents.
