Paula was born August 30, 1929, in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of George and Harriet (Lattig) Howarth. She attended Freeport schools. She married Harry Ehrler January 16, 1950 and they made their home in Elizabeth, IL. They celebrated 45 years of marriage until Harry’s death on April 22, 1995. They were members of the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth.
After their children were in school Paula worked at the Area Vocational Center teaching culinary arts and restaurant management. In her free time, she spent countless hours volunteering with the United Methodist Women organization and the Nursing Home Auxiliary.
She loved to spend time with her family, walk daily, read, and play scrabble with her lifelong best friend. She also loved watching birds, especially cardinals, who fed at her bird feeder all year long.
Paula will be dearly missed by her daughter Gloria (Stephen) Hammel, of Monroe, WI and son Brian (Tanya) Ehrler of Mansfield, TX; and her five grandchildren, Michael (Tracy) Hammel of Monroe, WI, Chris Hammel of Monroe, WI, (Joel) Georgeanne Oft of Orlando, FL, David Ehrler of Mansfield, TX, and Troy Ehrler of Mansfield, TX; and three great-grandchildren. Paula is preceded in death by her parents; husband Harry; and son, Steven.
The Ehrler family thanks the tireless efforts of the Freeport Heath Network Hospice care and the Elizabeth Nursing Home.
