Norma J. Ritter

Norma J. Ritter, of Mt. Carroll, IL, passed away Saturday, November 19, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 28, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Lanark. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery, Freeport, IL. A memorial fund has been established.

Norma was born June 5, 1940, daughter of Archie and Kathryn Shain. She grew up in the Monroe and Freeport area. Norma was a sweet child, and went to Center School in Freeport, then The Pines school in Delavan, WI, where she learned the little things which helped her on later in life. In her early twenties Norma moved to Mesa, AZ, to help take care of her sister’s children. Norma then moved in with her family to Pueblo, CO. Back in Freeport Norma worked for Malcom Eaton for over 20 years. She then worked for Rolling Hills Progress Center for 18 years. It was at Rolling Hills where Norma met the love of her life, James Ritter. The couple hit it off, and got married on June 2, 2012. Together Norma and James celebrated 10 ½ years of marriage.

Norma loved to listen to music, and dance to the tunes. In her free time she liked watching old TV shows, like Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show, as well as do word searches. Norma loved to work and help people, she was the kindest person you could meet. Norma’s loving nature lives on in those she loved most.

Norma will be dearly missed by her husband, James Ritter of Mt. Carroll; two sisters, Joyce Schubert of Mt. Carroll, and Edith Reuber of Freeport; and many nieces and nephews.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Catherine; her step-father, Leroy Pilcher; and her siblings, Darrel, Doris, Alvin, Carol, and Mary Sue.
