Neil Joseph Wand, age 77, of Galena, Illinois passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Church of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elizabeth. Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth. A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Church of St. Mary Catholic Church prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Neil’s memory.
Neil was born on February 5, 1940 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Antone Andrew and Veronica (Schaefer) Wand. He attended Galena High School. Neil honorably served his Country in the United States Army. He worked for Kelly Springfield Tire Co. in Freeport for 31 years.
Neil was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Freeport. Neil lived in Freeport most of his life, for the past year he had resided in the Galena Nursing Home in Galena. He enjoyed traveling and goofing off. Most of all, Neil treasured the time he spent with his family and never missed a family gathering.
Neil is survived by his siblings, Geneva Lantau of Galena, Marvin (Judy) Wand of Galena, Joan (Joe) Kuhl of Cuba City, Wisconsin; sister in-law, Dixie Wand of Apple River, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. Neil is preceded by his parents; two brothers, Melvin, John; three sisters, Emma Lou Altfillisch, Delores Wand and Carol Wand and a brother in-law, Carl Lantau.
