Mary Ann Garien

Mary Ann Garien age 92, of Preston, Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Mercy Living Center South in Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Preston Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, and one hour prior to the service, at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be given for the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Iowa Chapter, PO Box 96011, Washington D.C. 20090.

Mary was born May 14, 1925 in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of Harmon A. and Elizabeth L. (Brunner) Roberts. She attended Pleasant Hill Country School. On June 4, 1961, Mary married the love of her life Leroy W. Garien. They celebrated 50 years together. Leroy passed away June 16, 2011.

Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed being outdoors especially taking care of her flower gardens. She also liked to vacation and travel with her son, Duane, Yellowstone being her favorite place to visit.

Mary will be missed by her son, Duane Garien of Preston; a brother, Julius (Donna) Roberts of Texas; a sister, Betty Roberts of Dixon, Illinois; and a brother and sister in-law, Billy (Karen) Garien of Maquoketa. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; a son, Wayne Garien; nine brothers, Earl, Glen, Herman, Lloyd, Walter, Vic, John, Paul, and Philip; and four sisters, Lucille Johnston, Louise Bandixon, Florence Roberts and Nettie Roberts.
