John and Catherine Catholic Church in Mt. Carroll, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will take place Friday, October 27, 2023, at Law Jones Funeral Home, in Mt. Carroll, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., as well as one hour prior to Saturday’s service at the church.
Marge was born July 25, 1936, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of John and Mary (Nykaza) Swiech. She attended primary school in Chicago. She learned to play the accordion and enjoyed polka music. In 1950, her family moved to a farm in Mt. Carroll, where she milked cows and did farm hand chores. She graduated from Mt. Carroll high school, class of 1955. Following graduation, Marge attended Master College of Dress Designing-Dressmaking in Chicago.
She worked in the mail room at McKesson & Robbins where she met Frank Joseph Weber, Jr. and the couple was married on November 30, 1957. They would go on to have four children. After Frank’s untimely passing in 1964, Marge continued working as a single mom at Rand McNally in Skokie, IL.
In 1967, she married Tom Pociecha and they had one son together. The family moved from Mount Prospect, IL, to Mt. Carroll in 1972. They purchased Carroll Lanes in 1974, running it together until their separation in 1985. Marge continued as the sole proprietor before selling the business in 2005. She then took a job at Shopko, where she loved seeing many of the same faces she had served at the bowling alley for all those years.
Marge loved Mt. Carroll and all her friends that supported her from the community. As a proud breast cancer survivor, she was driven to make the local chapter succeed in their fundraising. She was always on the move with road trips, walking with friends, playing cards with card club, bowling, senior movie day at the theater, luncheons with high school classmates and helping with church community meals. Throughout her life she loved to cook and bake. Later in life she was an avid fan of Wheel of Fortune and the Hallmark channels. Her love for the community is only eclipsed by her love for her children and grandchildren.
Marge will be dearly missed by her children, Frank (Mary Jane) Weber, of Eden Prairie, MN, Pat (John Jones) Weber, of Walton, IN, John (Delene) Weber, of Mawson Lakes, Australia, Jean (Phil Girard) Weber, of Glendale Heights, IL, and Tom (Andrea) Pociecha, of Blue Grass, IA; grandchildren, Rachel, Emily, Ryan, Inika, Jesse, Payton, Trey, and Brian; and brother, John (Thelma) Swiech, Jr., of Mt. Carroll. Marge is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary; first husband, Frank; and former husband, Tom.
In lieu of flowers and gifts please make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Write in the memo line “Deep Purple Dream Team” which supports the Mt. Carroll chapter.
