Margaret Anna Hartman, age 93, of Chadwick, Illinois, died Friday, December 2, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the Chadwick First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will take place in the Chadwick Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Church, with a second visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Memorials may be made in Margaret’s name to the Good Samaritan Society or the Chadwick First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Margaret was born May 13, 1923 on the family farm in Salem Township near Chadwick, the daughter of Albert and Olive “Ollie” (Barnhart) Queckboerner. She grew up on the farm and attended the one-room Beede Country School with the same teacher for eight years, Lenora Spealman. Margaret graduated from Chadwick High School in 1941. On November 27, 1943, she married Glen “Jiggs” Hartman in Chadwick. They celebrated 59 years of marriage before Glen’s death in 2003.
Margaret farmed with her husband for most of her life. She enjoyed baking, playing cards, gardening, quilting, and dancing with Jiggs. She was a lifetime member of the Chadwick First Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Golden Rule Circle, and was a leader of the Lamplighters Home Extension for many years.
Margaret will be dearly missed by a daughter, Jan Marie (Ray) Appel of Thomson, Illinois, two sons, Roger G. (Jackie Fecht) Hartman and Thomas R. (Ruth) Hartman, both of Rock Falls, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Michael Berschinski, Beth (David) Wilkinson, Nadine Appel, Kay Appel, Sheila (Kurt) Alexander, Chad (Erin) Hartman, Nathan (Cami) Hartman, and Emily (Ryan) Miller; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Kaul of Sterling, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen; four brothers, Robert, Ray, Russell, and Lyle; a sister, Lenora Bushman; and a grandson, Scott Lee Appel.
