Lucas Terrance Nauman, 19, a loving son, brother and grandson died Saturday, September 24, 2022. He was born in Guatemala and through adoption became the son of Steve and Tia Nauman. They traveled to Guatemala to adopt Lucas, at the same time, they were visiting his brother to-be, Isaac, whom they adopted shortly thereafter. Together at home they made a family with their older sister Tarah, then a year later, another sister Grace was born.
Lucas loved growing up with a big family, often going to the family pond to fish, catch turtles or ride four wheelers. He loved spending time camping with his dad at the pond and any other friend that wanted to tag along. When his mom would come down to the pond he loved to show her all the things he could do, even finding a snake or two to freak her out. He especially loved his dog Bailey who enjoyed wrestling with him and spending time at the pond.
Lucas was fearless and had a good heart. Growing up, he wasn’t a big kid, but he was strong. In his early youth he loved to play flag and tackle football and wrestling. He was impulsive, sometimes impatient, but loving. To those that he loved, he was extremely loyal and protective, even sometimes forgetting about himself and putting them first. He felt emotions both good and bad with more intensity than the average person. He loved his family and friends immensely and would protect them always.
Lucas is survived by his parents, Steve and Tia Nauman of Camanche, Iowa; three siblings, Tarah (Darrin) Bryant of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Isaac Nauman and Grace Nauman, both of Camanche; paternal grandfather, Donald Nauman of Freeport, IL; maternal grandparents, Terrance “Terry” and Mary Flack of Camanche; aunts and uncles, Mark and Lorri Hilgendorf, Travis (Michele) Kubly, Brad (Kathy) Nauman and Terry Flack; and six cousins, Megan, Asher, Joseph, Madelyn, Logan and Mark. Lucas is preceded in death by his grandmother, Marilyn Nauman, and his brother at the age of one, Michael.
A private family service will be held with burial in Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Charlotte, Iowa.
