Lelia Marie Schneider

Lelia Marie Schneider, age 84, of Savanna, IL, passed away peacefully at MercyOne Clinton Medical Center on October 21, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 9:00 to 10:30am at SS John and Catherine Catholic Church, 314 South Main St, Mount Carroll. A funeral Mass officiated by Rev. Chris Kuhn will follow at 10:30am. The Rite of Committal will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. The family is being served by Law Jones Funeral Home of Mount Carroll.
Lelia was born May 17, 1939, in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Leslie and Gladys (Gaffey) Chapin. Following graduation from Savanna High School, Lelia married William “Bill” Schneider on June 22, 1957. They raised four sons together in Mount Carroll where they resided for most of their lives.
Lelia supported her husband and family on the Schneider farms by making lunches for the workers and freezing lots of corn over the years. Everyone appreciated her delicious meals and baked goods and cherished her handcrafted greeting cards and memory books.
She was a super fan at her boys’ basketball and baseball games and ardent cheerleader at grandchildren’s sporting events. Devoted to her boys and their families and a mother to everyone, including her daughters-in-law and extended family, she was kind, empathetic, and great at listening.
Lelia relished her time with friends whether visiting over dinner, enjoying a play at Timber Lake Playhouse, or entertaining friends and family at home. She had a keen sense of humor until the day she passed.
Lelia was proud to have celebrated over 35 years of sobriety and mentored countless others throughout the years. She was a devout Catholic and member of SS John and Catherine Catholic Church in Mount Carroll.
She will be dearly missed by her sons, Michael of Jacksonville, NC, Tim (Tammy) of Mount Carroll, William (Debbie) of Scottsdale, AZ, and James (Michele) of Grand Rapids, MI; 13 grandchildren, Ashley (Noah) Flemming, Matthew (Katie) Schneider, Devon (Dalena) Schneider, Darin (Heather) Schneider, Paige (Aaron) Wies, Tina (Vince) Marotta, William (Billy) Schneider, Christopher Schneider, Margaret "Maggie" Schneider, Cayley Schneider, Lauren Schneider, Kristina Delamar, and Heather (Jason) Russell; and seven great-grandchildren, Lee Michael and Jackson Flemming, Lucy Schneider, Addison, Quentin, and Calvin Schneider, Harper and Landry Schneider, Sawyer and Campbell Wies, and a great-grandchild due in December 2023.
Lelia is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Gladys Chapin, former husband Bill Schneider, sisters Patricia Gajdostik and Mary Ann Lorenz.
