John E. Messmer, age 60 of Savanna passed away Friday, July 24, 2020 (on his birthday) at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Lower York Cemetery, Thomson.
John was born July 24, 1960 in Hinsdale, Illinois the son of Floyd and Joann (Rockwell) Messmer. He is a graduate of Westmont High School with the Class of 1978. John did various jobs in life, including driving a tow-truck, working for the grain company in Mt. Carroll, and blacktopping with Ericksen Paving. His favorite work was metal scrapping in his spare time. He also loved to watch movies.
John is survived by his four siblings, Steve (Renee St. Germain) Messmer of Fairfield, Connecticut, LeeAnn (Frank) Swan, Jr. of Fulton, Paul (Perri) Messmer of Westmont, and Cheryl (Don) Muse of New Liberty, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents.
