Gladys I. Funk, age 83, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the University of Iowa City Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Inurnment will take place in Lost Mound Cemetery, Hanover, Illinois. A memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Gladys was born May 6, 1933, the daughter of Clarence and Bernice (Garrow) Ready in Hanover Township. She attended Hanover High School. On June 29, 1952, Gladys married Donald Funk. They celebrated 60 years of marriage until Donald’s death on November 5, 2012.
Gladys worked for the Ben Franklin Store in Savanna for 25 years until her retirement in 1992. She loved country western music and playing the accordion. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, canning fruits and vegetables, and watching Westerns and game shows with Don. She especially loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Gladys will be dearly missed by her two sons, Jack Funk of Savanna, and Dale (Carol) Funk of Greensboro, Oregon; three grandchildren, Julie (John) Brigham, Brian Wilson, and Trevor (Samantha) Funk; two step-grandchildren, Curtis and Jeremy; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Norah Brigham; two brothers, Raymond (Kay) Ready of Corpus Christi, Texas and William “Bill” Ready of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, and one sister-in-law, Rosemary Schafer.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; one daughter, Sandra Wilson; a sister, Dorothy Ready; one sister-in-law, Darlene Ready, and her parents.
