Frances Carbaugh

March 25, 1920 — January 10, 2016

Frances G. Carbaugh, age 95, of Freeport, Illinois formerly of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away at Manor Court in Freeport on Sunday, January 10, 2016. Private family services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of America in Frances’ memory.
Frances was born on March 25, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Mable (Klitz) Poffenberger at home in Mt. Carroll. She attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1938. On June 28, 1939, Frances married the love of her life Max W. Carbaugh in Mt. Carroll. To this union there were three children. Twins Gary Lee and Larry Walter and Gretchen. Frances worked in the clothing store for many years in Mt. Carroll, she also drove school bus for Mt. Carroll School District and helped her brother at Poffy’s Tavern in Mt. Carroll.
Frances enjoyed decorating cakes, playing any kind of card games but especially bridge. She loved cooking for her family and friends and always welcomed anyone. Frances was a member of the Mt. Carroll Baptist Church and an antique car club.
Frances will be dearly missed by her son, Gary (Pat) Carbaugh of Winnebago, Illinois; six grandchildren, William (Michelle) Iske, Renea (Brad) Witt, Rebecca (Dennis) Hatfield, Steve (Kathy) Carbaugh, Terry (Rae) Carbaugh and Michelle (Ed) Stiltner; thirteen great grandchildren, Jacob, Grant, Gage and Jett Iske, Jenessa, Hannah and Reid Witt, Seth and Rachel Carbaugh, Dane Carbaugh, Ethan, Noah and Chloe Green. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry; daughter, Gretchen; brothers, Walter and Wade.
