Esteban R. “Steve” Hidalgo, age 69, of Thomson, Illinois died on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at his home. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 27, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Cremation rites will be accorded following the mass. Burial will take place at a later date. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Antl Hall, 318 Chicago Ave, Savanna with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in Steve’s memory.
Steve was born on August 2, 1942, the son of Oscar and Longina (DelaHoya) Hidalgo in Oxnard, California. He attended High School in Santa Clara and graduated with the Class of 1960. He married Gayle Durward on September 23, 1972.
Steve worked for Northwestern Steele and Wire in Sterling, Illinois as a Metallurgical Engineer. Before Northwestern Steele and Wire, Steve managed camera stores in California and was in Civil Service work doing tracking during the early Missile programs. Steve was a member of the St. John Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He enjoyed visiting with friends, working crossword puzzles, watching sports, and was a master gardener.
Most of all, Steve loved spending time with his family. Steve will be dearly missed by his wife, Gayle of Thomson, Illinois; one son, Benjamin (Karen) Hidalgo of San Francisco, California and one daughter, Ana Hidalgo (Jeremiah Pendleton) of New London, Connecticut, 2 sisters-in-law, Joy Carol Durward, and Cynthia Durward Blenstroub, and family in California.
He was preceded in death by his father, and one sister-in-law.
