El Rose V. Thulen, age 90 of Savanna, Illinois, died on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Savanna Bible Church, Savanna with Reverend Michael Meyer officiating. Burial will take place in the Savanna Township Cemetery, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in El Rose’s memory.
El Rose was born on March 7, 1920, the daughter of John and Elsie (Paulsen) Atkins in Kasson, Minnesota. She married Wayne Thulen on November 16, 1937 in Clinton, Iowa. Wayne passed away on March 24, 1992 in Clinton.
El Rose was a Homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She treasured having her family close and would gather everyone together for Sunday meals. El Rose enjoyed going on hikes with her family in the State Park and reading, especially about Carroll County’s History. She also enjoyed relaxing and listening to Daniel O’Donnell and watching the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.
El Rose will be dearly missed by her seven children, Bill (Ginnie) Thulen, Elsie (Ed) Haring, Linda (Sam) Eley, Bob Thulen, Kathi Thulen, Paul (Kimberly Gouty) Thulen, and David (Brenda) Thulen; ten grandchildren, Bill (Laurie) Thulen, Jr., Renee (Jim) Goodman, Rodney (Dorothy) Thulen, Al (Tammy) Haring, Ron (Carlene) Haring, Dale Haring, Steve (April) Haring, Bob (Kristi) Collings, Jr., Christina Paisley and Allison Thulen; ten great grandchildren, Courtney, Adam and Nickolas Thulen, Jared, Brady, Isabella, Noah and Owen Haring, Molly Harrison and Bryan Collings; and three great-great grandchildren, Blake, Mason and Zach; and one special niece, Bobbie Lou Hochbaum..
El Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; one son, Michael Thulen; one great grandson, Robert Houston; two sisters, Doris (Lyle) Tipp and Dollie (Harvey) Eversoll, Sr.; and two brothers, Kenneth and Frank Atkins.
