Edward J. Flynn, 86, of Hanover, Illinois, died Sunday, September 18, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Law – Jones Funeral Home in Hanover. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover.
Ed was born December 4, 1924, in Hanover, the son of James J. and Liane (Petitgout) Flynn. He attended the Oak Ridge School from 1932 to 1940. Ed served in the United States Army during both World War II and the Korean War. He married Leona Weber on April 19, 1958, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2003.
Ed farmed in the Hanover area his entire life. He also was a heavy machinery operator and helped with the groundwork for Chestnut Mountain Resort in 1959 and 1960, then worked for Richard Anderberg and later Redfearn Earthmoving in Elizabeth, Illinois. Ed was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover.
Ed is survived and lovingly remembered by three daughters, Shirley (Dwaine) Mohr of Unionville, Missouri, Donna (Harold) Zink of Rock Falls, Illinois, and Patricia (Larry) Lathrop of Rock Falls; one son, Gary (Donna) Mullane of Hanover, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren, twenty – five great grandchildren, and nine great – great grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Leona Flynn; two sisters, Margarite Engel and Alberta Milner; one brother, Julius Flynn; and one great grandson, Samuel Ehredt.
