Edward Allen Rogers, age 87 of Savanna, Illinois died on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna, with Father Moises Apostol as Celebrant. Burial will take place in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Monday, November 28, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A Knights of Columbus Honor Guard 4th Degree Rosary Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., prior to the visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or a charity of the donor’s choice in Ed’s memory.
Ed was born on June 28, 1929, the son of Edmund and Harriett (West) Rogers in Savanna. He attended St. John’s Grade School and Savanna High School, graduating with the Class of 1947. Ed married Alice Jean Garner on April 19, 1952 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. After graduation, Ed worked for the Milwaukee Railroad before being drafted into the United States Army. Ed proudly served his country from 1951-1953.
After he was discharged, Ed went back to work at the Milwaukee Railroad in Savanna, then Milwaukee, WI and Minneapolis, MN putting in a total of 42 years, before retiring in 1989. After retirement, Ed and Jeanie moved back to Savanna. Ed was a member of the Savanna American Legion Post #148 and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where he was an active in the Knights of Columbus. Ed enjoyed golfing, watching football, especially the Green Bay Packers and sipping Manhattans. Most of all, Ed truly loved spending time with his family and friends.
Ed will be dearly missed by his wife, Jeanie of Savanna; five children, David (Barbara) Rogers of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kathleen (Floyd) Wehr of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Tom (Marlana) Rogers of Simi Valley, California, Steven (D’Arcye) Rogers of Parker, Colorado, and Amy Rogers of Redwood City, California; eight grandchildren, Kali (Beau) Vondra, Sam (Meagan) Rogers, Blake Rogers, Michael Rogers, Anne Rogers, Lilian Rogers, Nickolas Rogers, and Alex Marie Rogers; two great grandchildren, Dagney and Archer Vondra; two step grandchildren, Ryan Wehr and Lindsey (Fabian) Klein; and two step great grandchildren, Kira and Luka Klein.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Rogers; and three sisters, Frances Adams, Margaret Yoeckel, and Jane Rogers.
