Edna Bell “Eddie” (Strout) Griffiths, age 92, of Hanover, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home in Elizabeth, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Memorials may be given to the Hanover United Methodist Church in Edna’s memory.
Edna was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1926, in Casper, Wyoming, the daughter of Harold and Flaudia (Bell) Strout. She graduated from Milton High School in Milton, Iowa with the Class of 1943. She was a nurse’s aide and worked at two Defense Plants during World War II.
On May 5, 1946, Edna married the love of her life, Charles E. Griffiths in Milton, Iowa. They had three children and celebrated 66 years of marriage until Charles’ passing in 2012. Edna and Charles loved nature and managed to visit 48 states during their travels. In their later years, they often wintered in Florida. Edna enjoyed dining out, making crafts, and she cherished holiday get-togethers and spending time with family.
Edna worked as a secretary in real estate and insurance for nine years, she was a waitress and cook for ten years, and a Lecturer for four years. She was a member of the Eastern Stars, VFW, American Legion Auxiliary, and the United Methodist Church.
Edna is survived and will be dearly missed by her son, Anthony Griffiths of Hanover; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Flaudia; her four brothers, Leonard, William, Warren, and George; her husband, Charles; her daughter, Anna and her son, Charles Jr.
