Dorothy M. Yochem, age 91, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Monday, November 16, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 20, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 20, 2015 at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Memorials will go to the Carroll County 4-H Program.
Dorothy was born November 23, 1924, the daughter of Henry and Jennie (Kielman) Burma in Freeport, Illinois. She graduated from Forreston High School with the Class of 1942. Dorothy married Harold Yochem on September 16, 1956 in Freeport. They celebrated 44 years together until Harold’s death on May 10, 2001.
Prior to marriage, Dorothy worked as an office clerk. She was a homemaker, and farmed with her husband until retirement in 1983. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the church’s Deborah Circle. She was a member of the Freedom Homemakers Circle and a former 4-H leader. Dorothy enjoyed attending sports events, traveling, crocheting afghans for family and friends and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Dorothy will be dearly missed by her daughter, Diane (Brent) Peters of Milledgeville, two sons, Dennis (Shevawn) Yochem of Mt. Carroll and Darryl (Carol) Yochem of Nashville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Kenzi (Mathew) Peirce, Brett (Becky), Reid (Jenna), Elizabeth, and Andrew Yochem, Taylor and Connor Peters and six great grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents, and one brother, Lawrence Burma.
