Donald Howard Wink

Donald H. Wink, age 74, of Preston, Iowa, died on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at his home. Cremation Rites will be accorded. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Miles Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sabula Izaak Walton League in Don’s memory.

Don was born on June 5, 1944, the son of Harry and Leona (Davids) Wink in Clinton, Iowa. He was raised in the Preston, Miles, and Green Island area. He attended Preston High School, graduating with the Class of 1963.

Don lived and worked on the family farm with his parents. After they sold the farm, they continued to live on the farm for ten years, until the death of his father, Harry. Don and his mom, Leona moved to an apartment in Preston and has lived there ever since. Don worked many different jobs in his life, such as the Preston Locker and mowed several yards around town. He also assisted Dr. James Cahill with several small jobs over the years. He loved his community and was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston and the Izaak Walton League in Sabula. He also enjoyed bowling in several area leagues and playing cards, especially Euchre. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening and playing softball in his younger years. When Don was at home, he enjoyed watching TV and was an avid LA Dodgers Baseball fan. Most of all, Don cherished spending time with his close family and friends.

Don will be dearly missed by his sister, Madge (John) Ruchotzke of Grinnell, Iowa, and one brother, Gary (Diana) Wink of Westminster, Colorado; four nieces and nephews, Brenda (Russ) Crawford of Grinnell, Iowa, Diane Ruchotzke of Grinnell, Iowa, Penny (Brad) Krause of Lake Lotawana, Missouri, and Christopher (Molly) Wink of Denver, Colorado; seven great nieces and nephews; and five great-great nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Leona.
