DeLos “Buster” Stadel, age 80, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll, with a visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2016 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be given to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buster’s memory.
Buster was born on July 18, 1936, the son of Lester and Viola (Holland) Stadel in Woodbine Township, Illinois. He attended Woodbine Grade School and graduated from Stockton High School with the Class of 1954. Buster married Fern Wurster on August 18, 1957, in the Derinda Trinity Lutheran Church.
Buster worked alongside his father at the Woodbine Creamery in the late 1950’s. Buster worked for Colehour Elevator in Mt. Carroll for 33 ½ years and later for DURA Automotive Systems for 8 ½ years. Buster and his wife, Fern, owned and operated the Prairie Path Guest House in Mt. Carroll for thirty years. Buster was a longtime member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Carroll. In his younger years, Buster and Fern enjoyed dancing and playing Euchre with their card club. He enjoyed driving truck for his son, Randy, especially the 1951 Ford dump truck. Buster was an honest, hard working man, who believed in doing the job right the first time. Buster enjoyed traveling and knew every road and where everyone lived in the area. Most of all, Buster enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Buster will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Fern; three children, Randall (Joyce) Stadel of Mt. Carroll, Cindy (Dan) Fishburn of Freeport, Illinois, and Julie (Robert) Willson of Mt. Carroll; nine grandchildren, Phillip (Holly) Stadel, Mark Fishburn, Ryan Stadel, Seth Stadel, Lacey Willson, Kara Fishburn, Will (Jill) Stadel, Josh (Mimi Nava) Willson, and Brooke (Hunter) Schmitt; five great grandchildren, Christopher Stadel, Mackenzie Stadel, Airyonna Willson, Kaylee Stadel, and August Stadel; special sisters in-law, Edythe (Perry) Larsen, Clara Nieman, and Donna Wurster; and many nieces and nephews.
Buster is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Viola, and one grandson, Scott Fishburn.
