Charles Hovorka, Sr., age 94, of Chadwick, formerly of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2019 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to FHN Hospice in Charles memory.
Charles was born November 25, 1924, in Quincy, Wisconsin, the son of Frank and Rose (Lev) Hovorka. On August 1, 1946, Charles married Wilma Randecker. He was a truck driver early in their marriage. They farmed most of their lives in the Mt. Carroll area until selling out of farming in 1982. Charles then worked in agricultural chemical applications in rural Lanark.
Charles loved hunting, playing cards with family, telling tales, watching Cubs baseball, doing puzzles and gardening. After Wilma’s death in 2001, he remarried to Carolyn Du Foe at the Mt. Carroll Church of God on November 7, 2002. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mt. Carroll.
Charles will be dearly missed by his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Charles Jr. (Sandi) Hovorka of St. Petersburg, Florida and Kevin (Dixie) Hovorka of Carthage, Illinois; three stepdaughters, Margaret (Scott) McLeod of Rockford, Illinois, Mary Sansone of Oregon, Illinois, and Lori (Ron) Swick of Rockford; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, John (Luci) Hovorka of Coleta, Illinois.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rose; his wife, Wilma; five brothers, Joseph, Edward, Frank, James and Henry; six sisters, Mary Misek, Ella Moshure, Mable Worment, Rose Sinclair, Emma Kopus and Mildred Mueller.
