Barbara Marie Springer

Barbara Marie Springer, age 88, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at The Alverno Healthcare Facility, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, followed by a luncheon at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. in Hampshire Center Cemetery, Hampshire, Illinois. Visitation will be held 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll.

Barbara was born October 13, 1929, in Plato Center, Illinois, the daughter of Everett and Reva (Berwick) Hinkle. She attended high school in Plato Center, graduating with the Class of 1947. Barbara married Paul Springer on March 9, 1949 at the Plato Center Methodist Church. They celebrated 65 years of marriage until Paul’s death on November 15, 2014.

Barbara worked as a Letter Carrier and Clerk for the United States Postal Service in Mt. Carroll for 17 years until her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Naomi Circle and helped with funeral luncheons. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, NARFE, Carroll County Home Extension, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a volunteer with Carroll County Senior Citizens. Barbara enjoyed reading, playing card games – especially rummy, playing Yahtzee, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, gardening, embroidery and crocheting. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and the Northern Illinois Huskies. Barbara loved to go fishing with family on their yearly trip to Clam Lake at Siren, Wisconsin for the past sixty-eight years. Her family was planning on taking her there again next June.

Barbara will be dearly missed by four children, Larry (Sue) Springer of Eminence, Missouri, John Springer of Mt. Carroll, Nancy Springer of Clinton, Iowa, and Richard (Kathy) Springer of Clinton; eight grandchildren, Mike, Charlie, Suzette, Toby, Erin, Gregg, Louie, Rustie; seven great-grandchildren, Anthony, Alexandria, Gracie, Dominic, Bella, Loree, Garrett, Kaden; one sister, Edna Gittings, of Plato Center, Illinois; and one brother, Donald Hinkle of Plato Center.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; one son, William, and both parents.
